I disagree with the book The Hate You Give being banned. The book talks about real life issues that people deal with today. Not everything is a fairy tale and not everything in life is easy to talk about. The Hate You Give addresses stereotypes that may be uncomfortable to some people but it shows the readers that the stereotypes are actually there. Also a lot of attention was drawn to this book when the movie version was released. The Hate You Give was challenged because there was profanity, drug use, sexual references, and it seemed “anti-cop.” I do not agree with this book being being challenged. Profanity, drug use, sexual references are going to be part of some people’s lives (some more than others). Banning this book will go against the Core Values of Librarian because they are holding books back from readers. Books As Mirrors, Windows and Sliding Glass Doors In every book you will get a message. Most messages go under three categories: mirrors, windows, and sliding glass doors. The books that message is a mirror are books that you see yourself in, just like a mirror. Books with a window message is usually something that lets you see something differently as if you are looking through a window. Books with a sliding door message is books that help you see things differently and go through them. Mirrors, doors, and sliding glass doors messages are going to be different for each person. It depends on the person's experiences and point of view of stuff. You may think that these important messages can come from big books with 200+ pages or books you read in high school classes. Believe it or not some of the biggest messages can come from children's picture books. The first book i read was "Crown. An Ode To the Fresh Cut." I see myself in this book because I know that feeling when you get your hair done and you feel like a new person. You start to feel like a new person when you get out of the chair. This book helped me because it made me realize how important your appearance is to people and how it helps with your confidence. When you look good you tend to feel better about yourself and carry yourself more. To me this book is like a mirror because I can really relate. The second book I read "What Do You Do With An Idea?" I can see myself in this book because i know that in society it is hard to have your own ideas and thoughts without worrying about what other people say about your idea. Personally, I get very nervous when I get ideas, even if they are good ideas. I still try to hide from the world. This helped me realize that if only you believe in your own idea that that is and okay and your idea can still become something big. You should not worry about other people who have there own standard. You should be able to just do you. The last book I read Tacky the Penguin. I see myself in this book because when you don't want to fit in and follow the rules of “society.” but not fitting in can sometimes be a good thing. If standing out is you just being yourself just do it. Tacky the penguin was not bothered when the other penguins were all dressed up and aced all fancy because that was not the kind of penguin he was. This book has helped me as a person because it reminded me that trying to fit in with the crowd is not as important than being yourself. Copyright, Fair Use, and Creative CommonsThere are many opinions on the subject of copyright. I think that the lack of tougher copyright infringement penalties is detrimental to the music, film, publishing, and software industries. If there are not strict rules on copyright infringement there will be a bigger chance of people's original art and pieces being used for something else and the artist will not get the credit. In "Music Piracy Should Be a Thing of the Past" it says "It is just as easy to steal music online nowadays as it was 10 years ago." This can affect schools because there is more room for plagiarism and you will not know if the work being used is reliable. Also the original owner of work is important because of research. this where fair use comes in. Fair use keeps a limit on how things are used.
